ARCHOS 10 10.2-Inch Netbook review

ARCHOS 10 10.2-Inch Black Netbook - 3 Cell Battery

Archos has modifiead its Archos 10 netbook which was launched in January this year with the newer 10s model adopting a magnesium outer-shell and dropping its thickness to 22mm.

Just like the Archos 10, it relies on an Intel subsystem. There's the Intel N270 Atom processor running at 1.6GHz with a companion chipset, 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard disk drive. It also keeps the same 10.2-inch 1024x600 pixels screen and runs on Windows XP Home.

Another addition to the range is the Classmate version, which is yet another version of Intel's original ultra cheap laptop. It uses exactly the same components than the Archos 10 except for the 8.9-inch screen and the rugged external chassis which makes it ideal for kids as it is both shockproof and waterproof.

Other features include a webcam, an inbuilt 3G modem, the usual assortment of three USB ports, LAN and card reader. The Archos 10s will be on sale in the UK in two versions; the cheaper model, the Classmate will cost £320 while the 1.06Kg regular edition, 3-cell edition will be available for £330. Stomp an extra £20 and you will get the 6-cell version, arguably a much better investment.

Archos went the extra yard and offered 12-month (yes one whole year) worth of free trial of Microsoft Office 2007, 6-month trial of Parental filtering app and BitDefender Antivirus 2009 as well as an £80 voucher to download content from the Archos Media club.
